THE PRINCIPLE OF RAW FEEDING
The principle of raw feeding is to use unprocessed food as much as possible in order to come closest to a natural diet. In addition to the countless health benefits, raw food usually tastes good even to the pickiest of dogs.
The best-known nutritional models make use of the evolutionary descent of the dog from the wolf, with their genes remaining 99% identical to this day. Wolves are hunters, which makes their diet largely composed of whole prey animals. In addition to meat, offal, fur, blood, fat and bones are eaten. Depending on the habitat, it can also be sometimes eggs, fish or berries.
Against this background, it seems sensible to give raw, unprocessed food priority over cereal-based food or minced meat.
PMR - Prey Model Raw
Follows the approach of a wild wolf's diet and includes unprocessed animal products composed of 80% muscle meat, 10% bone and 10% offal. It is assumed in this model that the dog is a carnivore, that is, a pure carnivore. No cereal or starchy foods are fed. Instead, skins and stomach contents find a place in the food bowl.
BARF - Bones and Raw Food
With the so-called Barfen the same food is used, in addition the food supply may still be supplemented with supplements such as vegetables and fruits. Probiotic ingredients such as kefir, fish oils or mussel powder should optimally supplement the necessary mineral and vitamin requirements. The composition would be for example 70% muscle meat, 10% bones 10% offal and 10% vegetables, fruits and supplements.
